Martha Richardson, BSc, MCSP, Member of the HPC
Head Physiotherapist & Practice Owner

Martha opened Ambulant Physiotherapy in January 2005 and she has put a lot of hard work and energy into making the practice the success that it is today. Martha offers physiotherapy appointments six days a week.
Martha graduated from Coventry University in 1997. She is a chartered physiotherapist and has broad knowledge and experience from several NHS hospitals around England, and has been specialising in the musculo-skeletal field over the last 7 years. She partakes in postgraduate courses to continue her professional development, to maintain a high level of knowledge, and also to learn new treatment techniques. Recent courses include updates in acupuncture, muscle energy techniques, kinetic control and Swingbuster®. Martha is also the physiotherapist at Fulwood Army Barracks and rehabilitates the soldiers to return to their full duties. Martha frequently works with a wide variety of patients and has extensive knowledge of how best to treat a range of injuries.
Judith Mather
Physiotherapist. MCSP HPC registered.

Judith qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from the Royal Liverpool School of Physiotherapy in 1978. She began her professional career at Wrightington Hospital gaining valuable experience in Orthopaedics. After working overseas for a number of years Judith returned to Preston to take a post at Fulwood Hall Hospital. She continued to pursue a career in Orthopaedics with a strong focus on pre and post operative management for patients undergoing joint replacements and cruciate ligament reconstructions. She progressed to become the Manager of the Physiotherapist Department with responsibility for the Moving and Handling Training within the hospital. Over the past 8 years, Judith has continued in the Private Sector providing holistic treatment and management for patients with a variety of musculo-skeletal and sporting injuries. Her areas of special clinical interest are spinal and upper limb dysfunction and rehabilitation.
Joanne Steel

Joanne Steel qualified as a Chartered Physiotherapist from the University of Manchester in 2000. Since qualifying she has worked within the East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and has held the post of Clinical Specialist/Team leader Physiotherapist in Rheumatology since 2004. Rheumatology covers a variety of inflammatory conditions including Rheumatoid Arthritis, Ankylosing Spondylitis, Inflammatory back pain, Lupus & Connective tissue Disorders. Joanne works closely with the Rheumatology Consultants and multidisciplinary team to provide a quality and effective service.
Joanne has been the Club Physiotherapist at Preston Grasshoppers Rugby Club since 2001. This role involves acute injury management, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of semi-professional rugby players back to match fitness and liaising with the coaching staff with regards to training. Joanne has excellent skills in strapping to support vulnerable joints and the work she does gives her an excellent insight into progression of rehabilitation.
Joanne has excellent skills to manage a wide range of acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems, especially those with a complex presentation.
Natalie Almond
Physiotherapist.

Natalie Almond qualified as a Chartered physiotherapist from the University of Salford in 2003. She has worked at East Lancs NHS Trust since 2003 and progressed to Team leader/Clinical specialist in the musculoskeletal area of physiotherapy. She has worked at Ambulant since June 2010 and has a wide base of knowledge and experience in musculoskeletal conditions and is constantly developing and updating her skills. She is a valued member of the Low back pain working group who developed the first ‘Drop in’ service for low back pain in the area which won the award of service improvement in the North West at the Health and Social Care Awards 2010. She has a special interest in spinal conditions but is also able to perform high level assessments and formulate treatment plans including acupuncture for a wide range of other acute or chronic musculoskeletal conditions and complex presentations.
Genevieve Holt

Genevieve studied Physiotherapy at Manchester Metropolitan University 2003-2006, passing with upper second class honours. She began working at Royal Preston Hospital in September 2006 as a junior physiotherapist, rotating round many different areas, before developing a keen interest in neurological conditions and rehabilitation.
In 2008 Genevieve specialised in the Medical, Elderly and Neurosciences area, where she works on Neurosurgery, Rehabilitation wards, Stroke unit and Neurology wards, as well as the general medical wards. This has given Genevieve a fantastic level of experience and the knowledge, skills and confidence to treat a wide variety of patients, with varied neurological and movement problems.
Genevieve has further developed knowledge and skills in neurological rehabilitation by attending many courses, based upon the Bobath concept. These include the basic Bobath modules, gait analysis, upper limb recovery and painful shoulder. She also attends regular practical, and theory based training sessions at RPH. .
Matt Kenyon Physiotherapist BSc MCSP AACP
Lower Limb clinical specialist

Matt Kenyon is the Lower Limb clinical specialist for East Lancashire Hospitals trust. A graduate of the University of Salford in 2003, His Masters studies have included lower limb and spinal differential diagnosis, investigation and treatment at the University of Liverpool. Matt has worked in the NHS and as a private lower limb specialist for many years, he has a particular interest in high performance sport and has successfully managed elite athletes during training and competition from across a wide range of sports including Hockey, swimming, athletics, football, rugby, boxing, cycling, sailing and tennis. Matt is the chair and founder of the East Lancs Lower Limb specialist interest group who’s role is to identify and implement quality improvements across East Lancs using evidence based practise and research. He works closely with local Orthopaedic consultants and reviews complex lower limb cases for them. Matt is also involved in physiotherapy training and is the Lead competency trainer across East Lancs were his main duty is to ensure the provision of high quality, effective care from all staff and to identify and action under performance and training needs.

Phillipa Walsh
Physiotherapist. M.C.S.P., H.P.C., AACP.

Philippa is a very experienced Physiotherapist whose career in Physiotherapy has always involved the treatment of muscle, joint disorders and she has had a particular interest in the treatment of sports injuries and children. Philippa is trained in the use of acupuncture for pain relief and treats injuries at all stages through to advance rehabilitation for sports. As a keen sports participant and particularly her high level of competition in distance running gives her the insight necessary to rehabilitate the whole sports person. '
Lee Lawrenson
Sports Therapist. BSc, MSST

Lee qualified as a Sports Therapist in 2008 from the University of Central Lancashire and currently works full time at Edge Hill University as a Sports Therapy Technician. Lee has worked at Ambulant since February 2010 were he provides various forms of massage as well as examine and treat various types of musculoskeletal conditions. He has worked previously for several football clubs including Preston North End, Morecambe, AFC Fylde, and Bamber Bridge were my main duties included pitch side first aid, pre & post match treatment of injuries, massage, and various other forms of injury rehabilitation. Lee regularly attends courses to maintain his professional development and to date he has completed courses in treatment of the shoulder, specific soft tissue mobilisation, and kinesio taping. Lee is available for appointments every Monday, Tuesday, Friday evenings, and Saturdays.
Mike Doyle
Osteopath. BSc.

Mike qualified in 2010 as an Osteopath from The London School of Osteopathy BSc Level. Previously he has worked as a sports and remedial massage therapist since 1997. He has taught group exercise for over 20 years with classes ranging from cardio fitness, step, aerobics and more recently Yoga and Pilates. He is currently running Pilates classes at the Ambulant physiotherapy clinic and also hopes to start practicing Osteopathy at the clinic in the New Year 2012.
Tamsin Hewitt
Pilates and training

Tamsin has been teaching Pilates at Ambulant Physiotherapy since 2009. She is a qualified APPI Modified Pilates Class Instructor. She has a particular interest in using Pilates & functional stability training as part of a rehabilitation programme.
